Getting Started

Not at all. Pilates is suitable for complete beginners. Foundations class is specifically designed to be accessible for complete beginners regardless of your fitness or experience level.
In this class I will guide you through each movement so you feel supported and confident.
Pilates is low-impact and designed to build strength gradually. Many clients come to Pilates after a long break from exercise and find it the perfect way to ease back in without strain or overwhelm. In the Foundations class you learn all the work from scratch and you are able to go at your own pace.
You don’t need to be flexible to do Pilates. Improving mobility and flexibility is actually one of the many reasons people choose to start Pilates.
Pilates works on a combination of strength, mobility, control and flexibility and exercises can be adapted to suit your individual range of movement. There’s no expectation that everyone should move in the same way or have the same level of flexibility.
If you are new to Pilates, Foundations is a great place to start, allowing you to build confidence and progress at a comfortable pace.
If it’s your first session or class on the Reformer or Apparatus, dont worry, you are not expected to know how everything works. You will be introduced and become familiar with the Apparatus as you are guided through the exercises the entire session.
While Pilates can definitely help improve flexibility and mobility, it’s much more than stretching. Expect a full-body workout that challenges your strength, core, control, coordination and stability. Some exercises may feel unfamiliar at first, and that’s completely normal! Pilates is a practice that develops with time and consistency.
Classes are approximately 50 minutes, although I allocate an hour for each class to allow time for arriving, changing into grip socks and getting settled. As the studio has a small waiting area, please arrive no more than 5 minutes before your class to avoid congestion between sessions. The waiting area is also a quiet space, as other sessions may still be taking place.
Before your first visit, you’ll receive a Welcome/Studio Information email covering the essential information for your session or class.
Yes. Pilates is wonderfully adaptable. Whether you're just starting your fitness journey, returning after time away or are a seasoned mover looking to deepen your practice, different class levels mean the exercises can meet you exactly where you are.
Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely, such as leggings and a fitted top. Avoid overly loose, oversixed clothing or hoodies as it can get in the way during exercises and makes it more difficult for me to see your form. Grip socks are recommended for classes or sessions on the apparatus.
Just yourself, your grip socks and a water bottle should you need it. Mats and all necessary props and equipment are provided. If you have any injuries or health conditions, please do get in touch with me first before booking the class or session.

About the Studio

The studio Apparatus include Reformers, Towers, Cadillac, Wunda Chairs, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Ped-O-Pul and a range of smaller auxiliary Pilates apparatus.
Each has a different purpose and can provide support, resistance or challenge depending on the exercise and the individual.
During Private 1:1 and Duet sessions, we can work across the different apparatus rather than being limited to one piece or two pieces of equipment. Small Group classes also incorporate mixed apparatus, including the Reformer and Wunda Chair.
This allows Pilates to be taught as a complete system, with exercises and apparatus selected to suit your needs, experience and goals.
I am a Comprehensively qualified Pilates teacher, trained through BASI Pilates.
That means rather than being qualified in only Mat, Reformer and a few individual apparatus, I am trained across the full Pilates system, including Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Tower, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Ped-O-Pul and smaller apparatus.
Comprehensive Pilates teacher training involves more than learning exercises on one or a few pieces of equipment. My training took place over approximately 18 months and included more than 500 hours of study, observation, self-practice, teaching and examinations across the Pilates system.
Since qualifying, I have continued my education through further courses and workshops and am now continuing my classical Pilates education within the full classical system.

No. I want regular clients to benefit from being consistent, but I don't believe you should have to commit to purchasing a package with an upfront payment or a monthly contract / direct debit to receive the benefits of booking multiple classes.
So instead I offer Consistency Rewards, which is a reward system completely unique to PwA. Those that are able to show up consistently are rewarded with a meaningful saving on classes and private sessions.

Health & Safety

Pilates is often recommended for rehabilitation and injury prevention. But this depends on the injury and the stage of recovery you are at.
Even though modifications are mostly available, often booking a group class is not the most suitable way to start and should not be used as an opportunity for an Individual assessment. If you are recovering from an injury or pain and unsure if the exercises will be suitable for you, it is best to start with an initial private 1:1 appointment so we can assess your movement and guide you from there.
Please reach out before booking so we can discuss your specific situation and ensure the class is appropriate for you. At times, an initial Private appointment may be better suited.
Absolutely! Pilates can be a wonderful practice during pregnancy with the right modifications.
But the group classes are unfortunately not suitable for those in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy or until you are at least 6 weeks postnatal.
Private sessions may be the best option but please contact us directly for session/class options.

General Pilates Information

Pilates can be enjoyed at almost any age, and exercises can be adapted and progressed to suit the individual.
If you’re new to Pilates and have concerns about your mobility, balance, getting on and off the equipment, have any health conditions or previous injuries, I may recommend starting with an initial private 1:1 session before joining a group Reformer class.
This gives me the opportunity to get to know you, see how you move and introduce you to the equipment at a pace that feels comfortable.
Age itself is rarely the deciding factor, what matters much more is finding the right starting point for you. If you’re unsure, just get in touch before booking and I will be happy to advise you.
Pilates is suitable for a wide range of ages and you do not need to wait until you are older, injured or experiencing aches and pains to benefit from it.
For younger adults, Pilates can be a valuable complement to sport, gym training and an active lifestyle. It can help develop strength, mobility, coordination, balance and body awareness, while encouraging efficient movement patterns that can support you in other activities.
Pilates can also be adapted to suit different levels of experience and ability. The important thing is choosing a class or session that is appropriate for your age, goals and current level of movement.
Important: Our Small Group Pilates classes are designed for adults, and you must be 16 or over to attend.
If you are under the age of 16 and interested in Pilates, a Private 1:1 session may be considered where appropriate, with a parent or legal guardian present throughout the session. Please get in touch before booking so that we can discuss suitability.
Anyone aged 16 or 17 will require permission from a parent or legal guardian before attending a Small Group class.
Both Mat and Reformer Pilates are based on the same Pilates principles, but they offer different experiences.
Mat Pilates is practiced primarily using your own body weight, with small props sometimes added to challenge or support the exercises. It can be surprisingly challenging without any large equipment.
Reformer Pilates uses the Pilates Reformer, a which has springs, straps and a moving carriage. The resistance and support provided by the springs can make certain exercises more accessible while also allowing you to progressively challenge your strength, control and stability.
Neither is necessarily better than the other. Both can be highly effective and forms part of the wider Pilates method which is generally taught as a full system, rather than separate parts. Traditional Pilates develops core strength, stability, mobility, coordination and body awareness.
The best choice depends on your experience, goals and what you enjoy.
Pilates with Adele offers both Mat Group Classes as well as Reformer and wider Apparatus classes and session so you are able to experience the system as a whole.
Consistency is key when it comes to Pilates. For most people, practising Pilates 2-3 times per week is a great goal if you would like to see steady progress. Although even one regular session each week can be highly beneficial, particularly when Pilates complements other forms of movement and exercise.
Joseph Pilates himself originally encouraged a much more frequent practice, recommending his Contrology exercises 3-4 times per week. This doesn't necessarily mean attending 3-4 studio sessions. Your Pilates practice can include a combination of Mat work, apparatus sessions and exercises practiced independently at home once you are familiar with them.
How often you should practice will ultimately depend on your goals, experience, other activities and what is realistic and affordable for you.
Quality of movement, consistency and allowing your body appropriate recovery are just as important as the number of sessions you complete.
If you are new to Pilates, starting with 1-2 sessions per week and building from there is a perfectly good place to begin. If you are recovering from injury or chronic pain, 2-3 sessions a week or more may be best suited.
Pilates can help improve strength, mobility, flexibility, posture and body awareness, which may help you move more comfortably and reduce feelings of stiffness or discomfort.
The key is consistency. Pilates is not a quick fix, and meaningful improvements in strength, mobility and movement develop through regular practice over time rather than after just one or two sessions. Rather than focusing on only a “perfect” posture, Pilates helps you build the strength and control to move more comfortably and confidently through everyday life.
If you have ongoing or significant back pain, an injury or a diagnosed condition, I may recommend beginning with an initial 1:1 session so we can find the most appropriate starting point for you.
